With Europe’s emphatic win over USA in Paris, it was only right for FUEL Junior Golf at Oulton Hall to have their very own Ryder Cup competition, with the ‘Europe buzz’ ringing across the continent. And to make it extra special, the adults were asked to play as well, in a fun and friendly Adult/Child foursomes style competition.
On the day, there were 30 pairs, split up into 2 teams of Europe and USA, making for a great battle of 60 smiling golfers! And it was the adults who were made to tee off the first hole – quite a difference as it is usually the young ones who have to deal with first tee nerves, but this time it was the adults that faced the amphitheatre first tee (much like the Le Golf National in Paris, yeah?).
Whilst the main focus of the day was a team Europe vs USA, there were pairs prizes up for grabs and it was Eddie and Pete Claughton who took first prize in the 9 hole competition with 46 – 14.5 – 31.5 nett. In close 2nd was Louie and Martin Parker with 51 – 18 – 33 nett with father and son Oliver and Phil Hobbs taking 3rd place with 54 – 18 – 36 nett. The 5 hole competition was won by Max and Simon Carrington (19), with Jayden and Chris Gray (21) just pipping Izzy and Barry Rankin (23) to 2nd place.
On to the main competition and after totaling all 30 pairs score, it was Europe who narrowly beat USA, with 423.5 vs 425.5 (it really was that close!!!!!) – a special mention to Finn Roberts Green who won the ‘Best Dressed’ award with a fantastic Europe themed outfit – all Europe team members and those listed above can collect prizes from Thomas Devine, if you have not already done so.
As ever, it was great to see so many smiling children and adults on the golf course! Post event, there were drinks in the clubhouse before a small presentation on the Claret Jug balcony – a great day all round (the sun even managed to sneak out). A huge thank you to all of the adults and children that supported this event, we are looking forward to the next one!
